Graduation course in Biotechnologies for Health

Who is it for

The Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology for Health is inserted within the Area of Medical Biotechnology and is aimed at students interested in learning about the molecular mechanisms involved in the functioning of cells, tissues and organisms, studying their alterations in pathological situations and applying that knowledge in the production of goods and services directed to the maintenance of health. For more information refer to the contents of the course.

The course aims to produce graduates capable of functioning as a biotechnologist in different contexts, such as research laboratories, both basic and applied, diagnostic centers and biotechnological industry. The professional figure of biotechnologist is relatively new, but now well-established internationally, and with different characterisation in relation to its cultural area.

 Curricula

The course is divided into four curricula, which differ in a few learning activities that develop in the last three cycles (or semesters) of the six that make up the overall study plan:

  • Medical curriculum, centered on applications of biotechnology in human pathophysiology, diagnostics laboratory, in the development of treatments;

  • Pharmaceutical curriculum, dealing with issues relating the development and production of drugs;

  • Alimentary Curriculum, studying methods for the selection of foods and for the study of their effects on humans and animals;

  • Veterinary curriculum, exploring biotechnological issues in the field of veterinary medicine.

Access to the course

Access to the course is regulated on the basis of local planning with a mandatory test for admission to be held in September and before the start of the educational activities.

Coordination

The degree program is included in the educational offer of the Department of Molecular Medicine and Medical Biotechnology and is managed by the Teaching Coordination Commission, which includes all the teachers who work in the course. The Coordinator is prof. G. Paolella.
